After Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini had declared that the club had accepted an offer for want-away captain Carlos Tevez from Corinthians, the Brazilian club has now revealed that the deal has not yet been finalised.
Despite reports that Corinthians’ bid of £44 million with £4 million in add-ons had been accepted, the Brazilian side released a statement on Monday that said: ”Manchester City has not accepted Corinthians’ offer for the player… In fact, the club (City) sent a counter-proposal in which the Premier League club asks for changes in the form of payment and also in the total value of the transaction.”
City evaluated the Argentine at around £50 million and are reluctant to let their star man go for anything less than the amount. The Westlands Club had reportedly paid in excess of £45 million for him back in 2009.
City have made three demands, the first of which requires Corinthians to raise their offer by around £3 million to almost £47 million including the add-ons.
City also requires that the first of the four agreed instalments is brought forward, while Corinthians have also been asked to produce a bank guarantee to prove that they have the funds to complete the transfer.
With the transfer window in Brazil closing on Wednesday, the clubs will try to usher the deal before the deadline arrives. Tevez had a spell at the club before he moved to the premier League and is now keen on a move back to the continent to spend more time with his family.
City are also keen to see the deal through as the club have grown tired of their captains frequent threats of retirement and handing in of transfer requests and are keen to milk as much out of him as they can.
