The first Test between England and India kicked off today on 21 July will be memorable test match for 4 different things. First all it is the 2000th Test in cricket’s colorful history.
Secondly, much of the interest is currently centered on Sachin Tendulkar who is one century away from reaching 100 international tons and has an opportunity to achieve that on a historic occasion at Lord’s, where India and England will play the 2000th Test later this month. Sachin Tendulkar will be looking for getting his name forever on Lord’s board for best performances Sachin Tendulkar, who has 51 centuries in Tests and 48 in ODIs, however, said the landmark wasn’t preoccupying his build-up to the game. Now if Sachin Tendulkar gets a century, then everything will change. It will be his 100th in international cricket – and you can’t ask for a better setting.
Third thing is about the most famous trio of India test team aka Wall, Very Very Special and our own Cricket’s God Sachin. This trio is on the verge of 100th century in combination. It is expected at least this unique record crosses the benchmark in this test. Sachin has 51 centuries from 177 tests, Dravid aka Wall has scored 32 centuries from 153 tests and VVS Laxman has nocked 16 centuries in 123 tests.
Sachin’s has never scored century at Lord’s, apart from a century in match of MCC 11 vs. World 11 some fifteen years back. Sachin’s highest score here has been 37. Dravid started his test cricket at Lord’s with innings of 95 runs. Dravid has scored two fifties in 3 matches in Lord’s. Since then Dravid has built a wall and brought an air of solidity for Indian lineup. In the shadow of Sachin, Ganguly and VVS, he craved his own destiny. VVS Laxman has played two test matches at Lord’s and scored a fifty with total of 171 runs.
When this trio begin the campaign for India today, they all one thing in common i.e. the unfinished business of hitting a century at Lord’s – home of cricket. Lookout for this test match, it will be changing the status of next 1000 test matches. It will also mark the beginning of India’s dominance in test cricket and India’s steady campaign towards the Test Championship due to be held in England in 2013.
Now, we shall witness the 2000th test match with at least one century which will set the record straight away. Lastly by coincidence, the 2000th Test is also the 100th Test between England and India. They had played their inaugural Test also at Lord’s, 79 years ago, from June 25-28, 1932.
