It is not too late to recapitulate the plight of the West Indian team, in the present and a couple of weeks ago. We can clearly divide the turbidity causing reasons into two. Why Gayle was exactly neglected in the series, and why did the Indian team get a lukewarm response from the fans? The stunning opener for the West Indian team, Christopher Henry Gayle was excluded from the team, the reason is not new, it is the same reason due to which Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar were in the news few weeks back, “The Country or The Club” issue. When Gayle preferred IPL more than the series against Pakistan, the WICB [West Indian Cricket Board] was infuriated by his decisiveness, they alleged Chris for his lucrative temptation overweighing the love for the nation. And all the drama whatsoever happened consequently, was too evident, which made the WICB to exclude the Gale – Creator. This viewpoint of the board was strongly opposed by the former West Indies skipper, Vivian Richardson; he stated that the entire internal-misapprehensions of the board have made the state of WI Team worse.
If this is the state at the West Indies, what is happening here? It is no different, if they don’t have Gayle, well we don’t have all the senior players and the Cool Captain, Dhoni. This was “the” reason which extinguished the fans’ spirits and had few sponsors and things were totally contrast to the star-studded IPL, this was in fact the Real Cricket!
Raina, heading the team was a Next-to-Cool Captain, the first three wins against WI, though reminded of the Pakistan’s hat-trick win a few weeks ago against the same host team, made the people look up and exclaim- “Wah! The new team is good yaar!” It is more than just “good”. What the Indian Team did at the West Indies, was simply “Veni Vidi Vici”. Also what the country saw was a complete transition, from “The Crazy – Cricket Fans” to “The Conditional – Cricket Fans”. Their capricious support proved, what they idolize is not the game, but the game-changers, the players.
Fluctuating fan-base, lacking the legends, yet building-up the winning numbers – Cheers to the new Team India!
