There have been few clubs in the world, which at their peak have not hosted a pack of midfielders which have been the golden generation of those respective clubs. Be it Scholes, Giggs and Beckham playing along with Nicky Butt or Zidane, Figo and Beckham teaming up at the heart of the ‘Galacticos’, there have always been special midfielders leading the charge. The latest attempt at that has been made at Real Madrid and few would deny that the midfield strength of the Madrid team is rivalled only by arch rivals Barcelona. However, one understands that, at any given moment, there can be at most five midfielders on the pitch, playing in their natural positions. While the problem of plenty is always a good problem to have, one cannot help but wonder why Kaka would choose to stay in a team which has atleast seven midfielders who would unquestionably be on the first team at any other club in the world. Ask yourselves, would any of Alonso, Khedira, Ozil, Ronaldo, Di Maria, Kaka and Sahin be starting on the bench anywhere but at the Santiago Bernabeau? Add to this the talents of Fernando Gago, Lassana Diarra, Esteban Granero, Pedro Leon, Sergio Canales and Hamit Altintop among others and you realise just how huge the pool of talent is, at Madrid.
One cannot deny that Kaka would be desperate to prove that his big money transfer to Madrid is not a flop by staying on and fighting for a place in the squad. But, having been plagued by injury and therefore having dropped down the pecking order to the brilliant Ozil, one wonders how often Kaka will get a chance to prove himself. While there are few doubters of Kaka’s ability, there is no denying the fact that a consistent run of games would give his psyche a huge boost and help him take a step ahead towards the heady heights he achieved at Milan. And with interest pouring in plenty from clubs such as Chelsea, Milan & Inter among others, Kaka would have to be silly to stay on and hope for strokes of luck, with chances likely to be inconsistent. Also, it is no surprise that Kaka has been dropped from the international squad and for a man who claims to love playing for his country that much, he must be willing to do anything it takes to get back into the national squad. And all logical fingers point towards a Real Madrid exit. But, it is quite illogical at times, is football. So, should he stay or should he go? As Kaka would say, only Jesus knows.
