F1 season’s most successful driver Sebastian Vettel representing Red Bull aims the Numero Uno position to make up for the Canadian mishap at the European Formula One Grand Prix. But the world champion is sure face stiff resistance again from the McLaren and Ferrari teams.
Sebastian Vettel has won five of the seven races in this season and finished second in the other two to pack a runaway championship lead for himself and his team.
McLaren’s Jenson Button may be 60 pts behind Vettel but the win in Canadian GP is a sure morale booster. After all he has overtaken Vettel in the last lap of the GP, owing to a rare mistake from the German! Former World Champion Fernando Alonso from Ferrari might also want to put up his best performance despite his recent disappointments in front of his home crowd. Hamilton also hopes for a better performance in Valencia after the win in Turkish GP.
Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are slipping further behind the championships with each race. Alonso and Hamilton trail Vettel by 92 and 76 points respectively. Mark Webber, the second driver for Red Bull is at the third position, and is trailing by 68 points.
Hamilton feels that the Spanish GP will be a consolidation for him. Alonso however has mixed feelings for the race. He has got a new improved Ferrari, but recalling last years’ events, he might not be really optimistic about the 1st position. Webber has had a miraculous save from a crash last year when his car flipped over the air!
Mercedes team will be no factor in the race, as said by the team chief. Champion Michael Schumacher too had a great race in Canada for fourth place and hopes for more now.
Pirelli is introducing medium compound tyres for the first time this season in the Spanish GP. So the Spanish race will have an unseen amount of uncertainty. This race will be the last in which on-throttle blown diffusers will be permitted. Changes in engine mapping between qualifying and the race have been outlawed with immediate effect.
