The Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp insists that the club cannot afford to release the services of the top players if they desire to challenge the League title seriously next season.
Redknapp has repeatedly admitted that Tottenham needs to hold on to the big names in the sides like Bale and Modric, if they want to be serious title contenders in the next season. Redknapp also reiterated his desire to keep Luka Modric at the club despite the midfielder admitting that he wants to leave the club as he wants to play for a Champions League Team. However, Redknapp revealed that the midfielder can achieve a lot of success at the White Hart Lane.
Few days earlier, Luka Modric made a shocking revelation about his desire to leave Spurs and hinted a possible move to City rivals, Chelsea. Chelsea stated a £22 million bid for the midfielder which was earlier labelled as ‘ridiculous’ by Redknapp. However, Chelsea is reportedly ready in announcing a more lucrative deal for the Croatian.
Despite all the news and reports regarding the future of Modric at the club, Redknapp is adamant that Modric will not be sold and insisted that the club should try their level best to hold on to the services of the stars so as the challenge the Premier League title next season. Redknapp believes that if Modric is sold then it might fuel up the news of Bale leaving and no one wants to experience such a situation either at the club.
Redknapp stated “If Tottenham sell Luka then I feel it sends out a message that maybe Gareth Bale could leave and no one wants either to happen.”
“I have seen that sort of thing before. West Ham decided to sell Rio Ferdinand and then all of a sudden they all seemed to go. That’s no good for any club.
“Tottenham need to keep their best players as well as add more quality to the squad if they want to mount a serious challenge for the title.”Other top clubs raise the bar all the time and Spurs must keep pace. It’s as simple as that.”
Redknapp also revealed that Modric can achieve all that he wants at the White Hart Lane and all that is needed is to strengthen the sides with a few top signings which will help the cause.
Redknapp added “Luka wants to be successful and if we can improve the squad then he can achieve that with us.”
“If we can add one or two good players to our squad there’s no reason we can’t have another great season. So Tottenham could be a great club for him to stay with for the next few years.”
Redknapp although was full of praise for the midfielder and appraised Modric for the services he provided to the club and the manager.
Redknapp further added “I don’t envisage a problem with Luka. You could not meet a more professional man or a nicer person. It is so important for the club to keep him. I think we have to show him our ambition, which we will do.”
It is indeed a very important juncture for the Tottenham side to try holding on to the big names and especially Modric who more or less seems to move away. A few top signings and retaining the big names can turn in around for the Spurs in the next season.
