Tottenham boss, Harry Redknapp, feels that the West Ham midfielder, Scott Parker must pursue his career out of West Ham if he is to fulfill his England Ambitions.
West Ham United, suffered relegation in the 2010-2011 season which means they will have to play the Championship League next season to get back in the Premier League. However, Scott Parker, a midfielder for the Hammers have been very impressive throughout the season and have attracted many clubs to show keen interest in the Englishman. Spurs manager, Redknapp praises the midfielder for his outstanding season on a personal level and states that the midfielder can play a major role for his national team for atleast a couple of years.
Scott Parker had a rollercoaster season; the best season ever for him, and was rewarded with the Football Writer’s Player of the Year award. However, Redknapp feels that if the midfielder has to represent England, he has to play the Premier League.
Redknapp stated “I think Parker’s a great asset for England and worth considering for the next year or two at least.”
“It will be difficult for him of course if he is stuck in the Championship.
“Sadly, it’s the way of the world that England players rarely come from out of the top flight. Even more so these days.”
“But if he can get to a good Premier League club who knows what can happen? What I admire about him are his modesty and professionalism.”
“He is not flash at all. The car he drives is nothing special and he has a big knowledge of football, as do Gerrard and Lampard. I could see all three of them going into management one day.
“Scott played at Tottenham for West Ham last season; just hours after his dad had died. I don’t want to say he’s any better than anyone else for doing it because everybody reacts to things in their own way. But it tells you something about him and his love for football. And West Ham fans will tell you no one was more committed to their team last season.”
However, Parker’s age might raise speculation about his consideration in the national side. Although the midfielder’s age being an issue, Redknapp dismissed any suggestions that England should be playing a younger player ahead of the West Ham star.
He further added “Why should Scott Parker be overlooked because he’s 30? Watch him play and he could be 10 years younger.
“Capello is of the belief that if you’re good enough you’re old or young enough and I like that.
“I still feel this England squad has a trophy in it and Euro 2012 is a great opportunity.
“England should have too much about them to be worried by Switzerland today and Parker shouldn’t be worried about anything – he’s playing the best football of his career.”
Despite such suggestions from the Spurs boss, the Hammers would want the midfielder to stay at Upton Park and lift the spirits of the fans and the players which will drive the team strive harder to get back in the Premier League.
