The Croatian midfielder Modric who is being heavily linked with Chelsea, has now declared that he wants to leave Tottenham if an acceptable offer comes from Stamford Bridge. Modric along with Rafael van der Vaart and Gareth Bale were instrumental in Tottenham’s success in the Premier League and also their fairy tale run in the UEFA Champions League. Manager Harry Redknapp doesn’t want to lose the influential midfielder because he fits perfectly into the manager’s jigsaw. He further termed him as irreplaceable. But Tottenham failing to qualify for the Champions League this year has opened the gates for their prized assets to move away searching for silverware.
Modric has really flourished in the Premier League after his move from Dinamo. He helped Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League the previous season. With Chelsea looking to freshen up their aging squad, Modric will be a perfect fit at Stamford Bridge. As Frank Lampard is already 33 Chelsea will have to look for replacements for the talismanic midfielder and they have recognized Modric as one of their main targets in the summer transfer window. Modric plays as a play maker in the center of midfield but he can be employed as an attacking midfielder. His ability to pass the ball is unparalleled he also has a knack of scoring goals. He provides industry in the center of the park and he always tracks back and tries to win the ball, that’s what makes him more special. Chelsea appears to be the best option for Modric if he wishes to stay at London. But Tottenham won’t be willing to sell Modric cheaply to their city rivals and a price tag of 30 million pounds can be slashed. But that sum won’t bother Chelsea to chase down the midfielder as Roman Abramovich is looking to provide a fair amount of transfer budget to bring some fresh faces in. But it’s not only Chelsea who are looking to lure Modric away from White Hart Lane, champions Manchester United and Manchester City along with other top clubs outside Premier League also looking for his signature, Chelsea could face a tough battle.
Though Tottenham faithful has urged Modric to stay but the chance to play at the Champions League and having a crack at the Premier League champions United next season might be too good an offer to turn down, so we can expect Modric to join Chelsea in the coming weeks.
