Alessandro Matri, Fabio Quagliarella, Simone Pepe and Marco Motta, all of whom were at Turin on loan have been signed on permanently, the club have declared. All the players had been impressive during their short span at the club (Quagliarella’s season was cut short due to injury, but nevertheless, he was a key squad member). The deals are worth just over €35 million cumulatively.
A statement on the club’s official website said: ‘Juventus Football Club announces the exercise of the rights of option for the definitive acquisitions of the following players: Alessandro Matri from Cagliari Calcio for €15.5 million; the player has signed a four-year contract. Fabio Quagliarella from S.S.C. Napoli for €10.5 million; the player has signed a three-year contract. Simone Pepe from Udinese Calcio for €7.5 million; the player has signed a four-year contract and Marco Motta from Udinese Calcio for €3.75 million; the player has signed a four-year contract.”
Manager Antonio Conte, who replaced Del Neri after a sub-quality performance by the “Old Lady”, is keen to add power to his campaign. There have been two new arrivals already with Reto Ziegler and Andrea Pirlo.
Juventus are not in contention for either of Europe’s championships in the upcoming season. This will hopefully mean that they can focus on the league which has managed to evade them for 9 seasons now (though they won the Serie A in 2005 and 2006, the titles were stripped from them due to the “Calcipolli” scandal).
