Liverpool’s new management continues to take steps towards recovery. After letting want away striker, former Kop idol Fernando Torres move to Chelsea, the new owners brought in Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll as reinforcements. And now, Jordan Henderson, the 21 year old Sunderland midfielder who has been prolific in the past season, has become the latest signing.
It has been much speculated in the last few days that Henderson was on the Reds’ radar. Initially, the club allegedly made a 13 million pound offer, which was rejected. Now, they have returned with David N’Gog as exchange in addition to the 13 million, making the deal worth about 20 million.
Sunderland’s website released a statement, stating “Jordan Henderson will now hold talks with Liverpool, after the two clubs agreed a fee for the midfielder”
It is not yet sure if N’Gog would agree to a switch to the Stadium of Light, or if he indeed is a part of the deal.
Henderson is now the third big money transfer under club legend and manager Kenny Dalglish. Charlie Adam, who had been linked heavily with the club in the winter transfer season, but chose to remain with Blackpool, is also a realistic target. Blackpool have since been relegated, and Adam has stated his intent to return to the Premier League.
Stewart Downing and Ashley Young of Aston Villa are also rumoured to be on the list. Phil Jones, defender, has also been in the news lately, linked with a move to either Liverpool or Manchester Unite. Latest reports suggest that he is on his way to Manchester.
Liverpool fans will hope that Henderson is not the only signing. It has been obvious that the club clearly lack the depth to be in contention for the League title, in a year which saw Manchester United capture the “perch” with their record 19th league title.
