The Serbian slaughter, I would call, is almost nearing the records of John McEnroe, the yesteryears star. Winning this semifinal against Roger Federer will fetch him what… too many things, highly ineffable, so let us try to have a very abstract approach towards the hypothetical situation – “What if Novak dethrones Roger in the semis?”
This 22 year old, holds a record of beating Roger Federer [the man who withheld the World No. 1 for the maximum number of weeks in the ATP calendar] thrice in the same season. He made the Spaniard Nadal to taste the defeat at the Grand Slams. Novak is the only player to have defeated both Federer and Nadal at the same tournament.
Well, this is just the past… nevertheless we should not forget the 2007 Rogers Cup, in which this man came all the way defeating the top three seeded Andy Roddick and the above mentioned two kings. If Novak is the man winning the “French Open 2011” then he will be:
- The new World No. 1, taking away the title from Nadal who was holding it for a while. For Nadal and Federer it is not new to lose to Novak, after Djokovik’s terrific victory over Nadal at the clays and the three time defeat of the Federer the critics have well stated Novak to win the French Open!
- In this season Novak has not lost even once, if he is winning this semifinal against he is almost at the doors of World No. 1 besides that Novak will equalize to the McEnroe’s record of straight 42-uniseasonal victory. [There is also another point at this juncture, in this season of French Open; Roger has not lost even a single set!]
The young Serb is getting very much philosophical as more than looking into the practice he is focusing on, getting involved into the game and growing better with the match. He is looking into the mental temperament and the game’s network formation in his mind than playing hard. He said everyday is a learning experience for me, irrespective whether I get into the field or not!
Roger has this kindling feeling in him, that he is able to play much better these days. He stated that his goal is not to stop Djokovic from getting the titles; it is to play his best as he used to do so. The media and many other surveys have favored Novak, what the time has to say is still under the suspense. Whether the over-stated Novak or the under-stated Roger going to win the semifinal is still dubious! As Nadal commented – this is the match between the today’s best player and the best player in the history.
