Munaf struck an immediate blow in his first over with a good length delivery making Kirk Edwards nick to the keeper. As the story so far has been, Sarwan came in to bring out his team out of trouble but this time he could not succeed as he was unlucky when his bat got stuck to the ground and eventually his diving hands could not make it to the crease and he was run out. Samuels was tested by the scrambled seam of Mishra but one just kept the seam straight that spun a big way to ease Samuels short of his crease to be stumped. Wickets fell in succession with Mishra bamboozling the batting order with yet another stunning art of leg spin. They were in deep trouble at 96 for 7 but Russell and Baugh put on a fighting partnership in hope to set a total which can raise a cockamine hope for the bowlers. After Baugh was dismissed, Russell felt he has had enough as he made full use of the batting powerplay. One might tell though that Raina was selfish not to bring himself in but to push himself for the 49th over against a batsman who was in sublime touch. His over leaked 22 runs and Russell went unbeaten on 92 of just 64 balls to raise the team’s total to 225.
The Indian openers made a cautious start against the speedsters namely Roach and Russell. But the medium pace of Sammy had done the trick when Dhawan threw his wicket away. Kholi was unlucky to be judged lbw of his first ball. Badri looked to settle down but his obnoxious running cost him his wicket. Then it was followed by a series of poor shot selection by the Indian batsmen. Patel fell for a loose cut, Raina could not pick Pollard’s slow ball, and Yusuf got the toe end of the bat to leave Simmons diving to claim an extraordinary catch. Then score was 92 for 6.But the resistance of Harbhajan and sparkling display of batting from Rohit Sharma left Sammy thinking. The target then was 60 from 10 overs with a batting powerplay in hand. Harbhajan struck 14 runs in 41st over of Edwards but his ambitious strike for another big blow cost his wicket. Such poor judgment overshadows his innings of 41. But thanks to Praveen Kumar who utilized the powerplay and picked the vacant areas by smacking 2 sixes. Rohit Sharma looked flamboyant right from the start and gave a royal finish and remained 86 not out.
