The summer transfer window opens tomorrow, and the rumour mills are working overtime. Though typically, surprise transfers tend to occur during the last weekend of the transfer window, there are some interesting possibilities already.
Champions Manchester United, whose “oldboy” Van der Sar retired after the Champions League final, are on the lookout for a replacement. United have expressed interest in Manuel Neuer, but the German international looks certain to move to Bayern Munich. Atletico Madrid’s wonder kid De Gea was also linked, but the Spanish 20 year old denied intentions of moving away from the other club of Madrid. Wesley Sneijder was heavily linked with United, but he has recently extended his contract with Inter Milan.
Chelsea plundered 75 million pounds in the winter transfer, but it looks certain that they will make some more reinforcements to their team. Torres is still off colour and Anelka and Drogba are on the other side of the 30’s. Their strike partnership has not been concrete and Torres hasn’t really gelled with the other forwards. A forward is certainly on the Chelsea radar. With “Kun” Aguero stating that he would like to leave Atletico Madrid, maybe Chelsea will pounce in on him.
Liverpool also spent quite a lot in the winter, surprisingly. Manager Kenny Dalglish has said that they need to make “2-3 top quality signings”. Many have expressed that the Reds need to sign a left back. They also need to sign a winger. Jose Enrique, who can be deployed as both a winger and full back, will be an ideal signing for them. Charlie Adam, skipper of the relegated Blackpool, has expressed interest in returning to the Premier League. He will also be a good option for the Anfield stars.
The Reds will also look to offload disaster signings Paul Konchesky, Milan Jovanovic and Joe Cole. Youngster David N’Gog also might look for a way out.
Arsenal manager Wenger has stated he will be “very active” during the transfer window. Arshavin, who was mostly used as a bench warmer, might look for a different option. Spurs are on the lookout for a striker, and another Russian Pavlyuckenko might be offloaded too. Croatian playmaker Niko Kranjcar also has expressed desire to depart.
Oil funded, cash rich Manchester City, who have spent 100’s of millions of pounds in the past two seasons are expected to continue the trend. Though it is unclear where they will invest, it is absolutely sure that they will. Though the chief has said that they wouldn’t splash carelessly, manager Mancini has said that the club have to spend.
Blackburn Rovers, who tried to sign star players Beckham and Ronladinho in the winter, might just pull off something this time. Carlton Cole and Scott Parker, whose team West Ham has been relegated, also will look for a transfer back to EPL. Parker, the PFA Player of the Year winner, will be on the radars of top clubs.
