A grouch for many of Chelsea’s critics has been regarding Chelsea’s mindless dealings in the transfer market. Many have blame Chelsea and more recently Real Madrid and Manchester City for inflating the prices in the transfer market by doling out huge sums for players they don’t really need. Chelsea seemed to have learnt from its mistakes like Shevchenko and Adrian Mutu and had been more considerate in their deals. However since Torres was bought for an embarrassingly huge £50 million, Chelsea have reverted to their formula of throwing the money at everyone.
This summer they have been linked with Aguero, Kaka, Lukaku, Neymar, Modric, Sneijder, Arda Turan, van der Weil.. (out of breath). Wait but Kevin de Bruyne says that he already has agreed terms regarding a transfer to Chelsea even with Genk vehemently denying the fact. The funny thing is that all players linked to Chelsea have been linked at obscene amounts that would scare most clubs away.
The forward line at Chelsea is already burgeoning with Anelka, Malouda, Torres, Drogba, Kalou, Kakuta, Sturridge fighting for the berths. The addition of any more players would only resent in lesser playing time for the younger players who would be forced to look elsewhere for first team opportunities. So Chelsea will have to sell before they buy anyone. Chelsea are reportedly balking at the £45 million demanded by Santos for Neymar and are only ready to pay £22 million. Also with Aguero’s preference to a move within Spain and Ozil’s comments, it is much more likely to picture him in the white of Madrid than in the blue of Chelsea next year. However Chelsea look set to land Belgian Lukaku with negotiations nearing completion.
In the midfield Chelsea have been linked with a host of names but would be probably needing two players to come in. It looks set that Hiddink would be appointed manager and bring Turkish midfielder Arda Turan from Galatasaray. Chelsea have also stirred the hornet’s nest with a £22 million bid for Luka Modric. Tottenham had previously denied that they would be selling any of their top players but have been stumped Modric’s own revelation about wanting to move to Chelsea. The next few days would be interesting to say the least with Chelsea having gone back with a £25 million bid.
Chelsea’s defence looks solid for the next year but they will have to ensure that they are able to retain Alex who is being courted by Bayern Munich. Having sent Bruma on a two-year loan to Hamburg, Chelsea would not want to lose any more defenders.
