Blackburn Rovers Defender and Liverpool’s target, Phil Jones, is at Old Trafford for a medical, ahead of donning the United t-shirt, as the Red Devils grabs the youngster under the noses of their tearing rivals, Liverpool

The highly rated 19-year old, Phil Jones is having a medical at Manchester United before his move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have agreed for a £16 million move for the young defender.

Phil Jones has been very impressive and was rated very highly in this season which led Manchester United and Liverpool show keen interest in the Englishman. Phil Jones is expected to sign a long five-year deal after; Sir Alex Ferguson made a swift move to steal the impressive youngster under the noses of Liverpool.

However, the 19 year old looked pretty much close to a move to Merseyside and according to sources; the defender was for a medical at Liverpool. It was also learned that the bookmakers omitted the betting on him after learning that the defender is joining Liverpool.

However, Ferguson had a close eye on youngster for over 3 years and decided to grab him after learning that Liverpool was on cause to sign the defender after meeting the contractual clauses.

Phil Jones was also targeted by big Premier League teams like Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham, following his impressive performances last season, playing a key role for the Rovers. He made his debut back in March 2010 and made 26 league appearances, and since then there is no looking back for the England under-21 International.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to wait for the deal as the Scot wanted the defender to develop more as a player for another season at Ewood Park, but he was forced to sign the young defender, as Liverpool edged closer on signing Jones.

Phil Jones is appreciated widely for his fearless defending and dominance in the air, and is learnt that the defender will become the long term successor to current England captain John Terry.

Finally after numerous speculations and rumours wandering around, we get to see an official signing. The fans would welcome the youngster at Old Trafford and the defender would be indeed excited to grab this opportunity and play along the likes of Rooney, Ferdinand, and Giggs etc. It is surely a big moment for the 19-year old.
