The FIA, which is the governing body for Formula One has finally included the Bahrain Grand Prix back in the Formula One 2011 calendar. Originally to be held on the 13th of March, the Bahrain Grand Prix was taken off the Formula One race calendar due to the civil unrest in the region.
The 2011 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will now take place on October 30, which will replace Formula 1 Grand Prix of India, which earlier had been scheduled for that date, will now become the season finale combined with the FIA Annual General Assembly and Prize-Giving Ceremony.
A team of FIA Officials and Stewarts inspected the situation in Bahrain and unanimously voted in favor of putting the race event back in the calendar. The country had faced a lot of instability during recent times but it seems that normalcy is coming back in the region. Business has started to come back to life there and the F1 race will help generate a lot of revenue and promote tourism in the state.
However there are many who like to think otherwise. Max Mosely, former head of FIA, thinks that it is rather impossible for the Bahrain race to take place and he will be very surprised if the race actually tales place. Even the veteran driver, Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing has expressed his doubts on the rescheduled Bahrain GP. Many teams seem unhappy about this decision form the FIA but no teams have made any official comments on it yet. The teams are also hesitant about adding one more race to the already packed season. Logistics and movement of the teams between races will be coming under a lot of stress due to the extra race being added to the calendar.
This has now put the Indian Grand Prix as the season’s final race. In a way it is good news, as the grand project undertaken by the Jaypee Group is still under construction. It gives them a few months more to complete and present the Buddh International Circuit to the world. The Indian Grand Prix will now take place from 9th to 11th Dec 2011. It will also host the Prize-Giving Ceremony and is expected to be a gala event.
