Simon Katich is an Australian cricketer, well known for as opening batsman in test. He is well regarded for his ability and tenacity as a batsman, and draws comparison to former national player Michael Bevan. Katich made his debut for the Western Australia state team in the 1996-97 seasons. The following season he was a central figure in Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield success, scoring an impressive 1,039 first-class runs for the season.
Katich made his Test debut on the 2001 Ashes tour of England. He failed to capitalize making only 15 and was not out. Only in his second match he bowled for the first time in Test cricket, and in the second innings he took 6/65 in the 2nd innings against Zimbabwe in Sydney. Following Steve Waugh’s retirement in 2004, Katich established himself in the Australian team. His best Test batting performance came against India at Sydney in January 2004, when his 125 and unbeaten 77 saved Australia the Test, series, and a decade long unbeaten record at home. He regained his place and enjoyed a good Test series in India in October 2004, where he made good scores of 81 and 99. His achievements continued later on at peak.
He was aged 35 and he lost the contract with the Australian team because of his ageing. “His age was the only reason to shed off the contract” as per news. But the 34years old Bret Lee regains his position back. Along with him Michael Hussey also loses contract he was aged 36.
Apart from Australian International cricket, he also played in IPL for the team of Kings XI Punjab and the captain for New South Wales Blues also he played for Hampshire and Derbyshire. He has a quote that “My faith gives me a focus in how I lead my life and go about my cricket.”, but now the faith is being aged. His International career came to an end by the loss of contract with the team by this June 2011. But he is still in action…
