Dravid’s innings of 112 made from 274 balls, consisted of 10 fours and one sixer had a weighty worth in the match. The former captain of India brought up one of his most satisfying centuries as it was a difficult track to bat on. He was dismissed by Devendra Bishoo as he tried to hit him out of the park. He was the last man to be taken after almost six hours of stand on the pitch.
The wicket was a two paced one fit for bowling mostly; the other top order batsmen struggled for survival. It was a quite a challenge to bat on the track but the veteran, stood like a formidable ‘Wall’ with aura of confidence around him. It was a moment to watch as he brought up his century in 252 balls off a single from Fidel Edwards ball.
India was reeling with 183 for eight as Harbhajan Singh got out for 5 and Praveen Kumar for a duck early after the lunch session. Bowler Amit Mishra then helped Dravid achieve this century with his sensible and careful batting display. Amit scored 28 runs from 60 balls with four fours. Together with Dravid, the duo added 56 runs for the ninth wicket.
Amit Mishra departed at 239, when India had stretched their lead above the 300 runs mark. It is quite a score to chase considering the nature of the pitch.
The man of the day was definitely Dravid who yet again proved that adverse situations can be combated with proper technique combined with patience and concentration. It was indeed a laudable performance put up by him.
