The 13-time grand slam champion has been away from the WTA Tour circuit for more than 10 months due to a foot injury – which has required two operations – and a blood clot in her lung.
The 29-year-old 2002 Roland Garros champion will sit out this year’s tournament as she continues her recovery, and has vowed to make a spectacular return to the court when fully fit.
She posted on Twitter: “My thanks to all of you guys for the love and support. I will miss Paris however; I am working hard to make my return unforgettable.”
Serena’s older sister Venus, 30, has not played since January because of a hip injury and is also a doubt for the Paris event, which gets under way on May 22.
Serena Williams had confirmed that, she will not play at the French Open.
