Wayne Rooney has admitted that his request for a transfer earlier in the season was a mistake and hopes to prove himself to the Manchester United’s fans this season. United’s forward had earlier hinted that he wanted to leave United, back in October.
However, the English International made a swift U-turn and signed a new lucrative deal with United. After playing an important role in United’s League and Champions League success this season, the striker admitted that he was wrong in requesting a transfer.
The 25 year old striker did struggled with his form in the start of the season and often failed to grab a place in the starting Eleven. Even when he started in the playing eleven, he struggled with his performance. The old Rooney was missing, the one who proved to be a goal scoring machine in 2009-2010 season. All this did not help, and the striker was left frustrated. This could be one of the main reasons for the striker’s request of moving out of Old Trafford.
However, things now look good for the striker as he is committed to the Club now and is looking in great form. The 25 year old has scored 12 goals in 21 matches since the start of 2011, the recent goal coming in a 2-0 win against Schalke which has put United, just one step closer to the Champions League Final.
Rooney stated “Obviously it’s been a lot different in the second half of the season compared to the first.”
“I’m very grateful to the fans for supporting me through it and I’m delighted with my form again.”
“I hope I am proving myself through my performances. Obviously I understand I made a mistake.”
“When I look at it now, how wrong was I? I admitted that and I apologised for that and I have wanted to try and prove myself again to the Manchester United fans. I feel I am doing that now,” he added.
The United striker also stated that he is 100% committed to the club and he is to stay at Old Trafford. He is happy with his current form and wants to contribute for the success of the team. Manchester United is just one step away from Wembley and look to clinch their 19th League Title. The striker in eying both League and Champions League glory and feels that winning both would be great to end the season with.
