The Portuguese winger admitted that he is unsure what the Bulgarian has in mind after his omission from the Champions League squad, but expressed his desire stating that he wants the striker to remain at the Old Trafford next season and fight for success.
Manchester United winger, Nani, hopes that his team-mate Dimitar Berbatov stays at the Old Trafford for the next season and strives for further glory after he was left out of the squad in the finals of Champions League tie against Barcelona.
It came as a shock when everyone learned before the match that the striker has been left out of the squad. Berbatov even failed to make it to the bench and Michael Owen was given the nod ahead of the Bulgarian. Berbatov was so furious with Ferguson’s decision that he did not even watch the match with the rest of the squad which United eventually lost.
The decision to keep Berbatov out of the squad in the finals has fueled the speculation of him moving out of Old Trafford this summer. Berbatov was United top-scorer this season and it could be one of the main reasons why the Bulgarian was so furious with the Scot’s decision. It would have been difficult for Ferguson to leave the top scorer out of the squad against Barcelona. But the Scot later explained his decision stating that it was indeed difficult to keep the striker out. He further explained his decision to choose Owen as he was an experienced campaigner.
Nani, a substitute in the finals, admitted that he has no clue what Berbatov is thinking after his omission but hopes that the striker will stay at Manchester United.
He said “I don’t know what he has in mind but everyone knows he’s a fantastic player.”
“He has scored a lot of goals for us, finished as the top scorer in the league, and I would like him to play for Manchester United again next season.
“I don’t know which players will be coming in but most important is that the ones who stay fight for us.”
Berbatov absence gave also gave rise to speculation that the striker immediately left Wembley after he was left out of the squad. However, his agent, Emil Dantchev, rubbished such reports and stated it as utter ‘nonsense’, but did not make any statement regarding Berbatov’s future saying “Let us take a few days.”
What happens this summer is surely a debatable question regarding the striker’s future at the Old Trafford. However, the striker has a one year contract left with the Red Devils and the fans must be wanting that the striker keeps his head cool and remain with the Red Devils for another season.
