Kevin Pietersen has been out of action since that due to hernia problem. Now, he is now getting fit and ready for upcoming cricket season. He was already practicing with Surrey in a bid to take his place in the England side for the first Test against Sri Lanka in Cardiff, which gets underway on Thursday, 26 May.
Apart from Pietersen, who joined the Brown Caps at the tail end of last season from Hampshire, Surrey’s XI will be largely made up of youngsters. How Pietersen, who barely played for Hampshire during his time there, responds to the challenge of leading such an inexperienced XI will be fascinating given the sour end to his England tenure
Former captain Kevin Pietersen articulated on England’s decision to opt for three skippers was “fascinating” but added “no-one knows whether it’s going to work”. England will head into upcoming home series against Sri Lanka and India with separate captains for all three international formats. Andrew Strauss will be captain of Test team; opening batsman Alastair Cook will lead 50-over side and Stuart Broad replacing Paul Collingwood as captain of England’s world champion Twenty20 team.
Pietersen said he was hopeful to get charge of 50-over side, if Strauss decided to hang his shoes from limited over internationals. But it was turned down by officials, with Flower later revealing Pietersen had been among the names considered when reviewing the captaincy set-up before England opted for the trio of Strauss, Cook and Broad.
Kevin Pietersen was not available to play in IPL for Deccan Chargers this season due to injury. He was captain of England, before his dispute with England coach Peter Moores. He is fastest batsman to reach 1000 runs and 2000 runs in ODI and fastest to reach 4000 runs in test in terms of days. He has 17 centuries to his name in Test cricket.
His looking forward to perform well to grab a place in squad against Sri Lanka.
