Delhi (B)are (E)vils – are almost at the end of their journey in IPL season 4. Delhi’s loss to Kochi yesterday has placed them in the bottom of the table along with Pune Warriors. Now they have to do the impossible to get through to the top four to feature themselves in the play – offs which looks very unlikely! Sehwag was pensive on his team and had comments on his team performance. He sounded extremely optimistic when he was confident of winning the next 5 out of 5 games.
Delhi – almost a new franchise this year due to their brainless auction in January is reaping the misfortunes with a very new side on the park. Except Sehwag, all the other 10 players who make the field are making their debut when they come in every time to play for Delhi. The entire nucleus of the team has been disintegrated to several other franchises. AB, Dilshan, Gambhir were their main strength along with Sehwag which helped the team win matches last year. But come IPL 4, they have totally revamped the side, bringing in so many fringe players of Indian cricket who are not the best when it comes to playing against the best.
Delhi is absolutely top heavy in their side and lack the quality Indian spinner who can feature in the XI every time. The games that Delhi has won so far are due to the brilliance from Sehwag or Warner. When either of the two plays most of the innings the team ultimately ends up in getting a competitive score. The problem that has persisted with the team is their credibility to win the important moments of the match. In the game against Kochi, they did not possess a quality spinner to stop the run flow and kept bowling the medium pacers who ended up in the receiving end.
Chennai and Mumbai are gaining the odds because of the nucleus that they have maintained to their side from the auctions from the previous editions. Chennai and Mumbai have gained some immense talent such as Randiv, Styris and Southee while Mumbai has gained Symmo, Rohit and Rayudu who are proving to be at their best due to their potential talent.
Delhi has to perform the unthinkable and almost impossible to go to the play – offs but there are some hard lessons learnt in this season which can be changed in the next season if they crack the winning code and the combination!
