Virender Sehwag is a frivolous entertainer and he just had to prove it once again. He was optimistic that his team would make it to the semis and he is now leading the way as an example. He struck a brilliant 100 of just 48 balls to leave Kumar Sangakkara just ball watching as Delhi Daredevils chased down a mammoth 176 with an over to spare.
The Deccan Chargers got off to a flier with Shikhar Dhawan riding in boundaries as they made 43 in the powerplay losing the only wicket of Ravi Teja. Sangakkara got his eye in smashing 3 boundaries of Morkel but things slowed down as soon as Agarkar removed Dhawan for 29. But still Sangakkara sailed in boundaries getting set to clinch another 50 not before the Delhi trump card Hopes got rid of the home skipper. But then Duminy got into the act smashing 4 sixes to clinch a 50 and Christian remained not out on 27 to set a target of 176.
Delhi got off to the worst possible start of this run chase in this IPL. Steyn hardly took time to get his out swinger doing the damage to Finch. The pace duo of Ishant and Steyn worked wonders as Delhi slumped to 29 for 3 after 6 overs. But one man stood right there watching at the non-strikers end. He does not need a powerplay to score freely just the will. He bludgeoned Malhotra for 23 runs in an over to send out a warning. As Birt rotated the strike, Sehwag started to deal in boundaries. Mishra was welcomed into the attack with a six but Sehwag was dropped the next ball at sweeper cover. Birt gave Sehwag strike 4 times and 53 runs were scored. Birt’s dismissal though did not have any impact as Sehwag enjoyed his second drop chance by Ravi Teja of the bowling of Amit Mishra once again. Sehwag brought his first IPL ton and smashed 20 runs of Chipli’s over before falling to Steyn who gave a pat for this fearless cricketer. Hopes finished things off along with Nagar as Delhi look more positive to clinch the remaining 4 matches.
Words are not enough to describe the genius of Sehwag. His fearless play stuns even the best in business. He had nothing to lose and his positive mindset just crafted a victory for his team. Yes he was lucky but the old saying still holds well “Fortune favors the brave”. After the entire Hyderabad crowd did earn the entertainment for the money they paid.
