Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has been signed by the Pune Warriors India in the replacement of injured Ashish Nehra. In the IPL auction 4, Sourav was unsold. Even Kolkata Knight Riders team owner Shahrukh Khan had no place for Ganguly in his team.
In reply to media’s question, KKR replied that they wanted to appoint Ganguly as a mentor. Whatever be KKR’s reply, it seemed that Sourav was made a scapegoat. He was not selected due to polictics within BCCI and IPL teams.
As everybody witnessed in the auction that form and previous IPL performance was considered and payed good amount, then how come Sourav Ganguly was ignored, who was the fourth highest run scorer in IPL 4 with 493 runs came from his bat with a strike rate of 117.66.
Apart from the second season of IPL, Sourav had performed well in both the remaining seasons of IPL. In the first three IPL season, he scored 1031 runs, thus he was in the top ten runs scores list before the start of fourth IPL.
There were rumors that Kochi Tuskers Kerala would select Ganguly in place of captain Mahela Jayawaradena but as of now he is been selected by Subroto Roy’s losing team Pune Warriors India. It will be really interesting to see whether Ganguly shows his “DADAGIRI” yet again. It might be difficult to play in the T20 way, as he has not played international cricket since months and his fitness will play a crucial role in his performance.
In Pune’s match against the KKR, we will definitely see two things. The Prince of Kolkata will face bollywood star actor Shahrukh Khan’s team and more important he will play against his home crowd.
