Barcelona’s midfielder, Andres Iniesta has admitted that his side will be wary of Manchester United in the Champions League c. He further added “When you face Manchester United, you have to be wary of anything.”
The two teams will face each other at Wembley on May 28. This encounter at the Wembley will be a repeat of 2009 Finale in Rome, where Barcelona defeated United 2-0, courtesy to goals from Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi.
However, Iniesta feels that both the teams have matured and improved since then, despite United losing the lights of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. The Spanish insisted that his side has improved a lot as a team since 2009. He stated “To keep winning we have had to improve, evolve, and I think we’ve done it. We have improved a lot.”
“Every game is different, but Barca hasn’t changed. We always play our way, holding onto the ball, trying to create chances and minimising their virtues.” Iniesta was in all praise for the Red Devils, saying “They [United] are also a better team than they were in 2009 so we’ll see what happens. They don’t play teams in their league that dominate possession so much. It’ll be a good game, Manchester have a great team.”
“They’re very compact, especially against a difficult team, because they defend well and have fast players on the counter attack, they’re very consistent, and they work hard for the whole match.”
Iniesta added “When you face Manchester in a Champions League final, you have to be wary of anything”
Both Barcelona and United have played dominating football in the Champions League and these are the two who in real sense deserve to play at the Wembley. Both have won their respective league and both of them are fighting for their 4th Champions League glory. Iniesta feels that both the teams love to play their football and are the most deserving teams to play the Finale.
Iniesta paid tribute to United legends Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, who continue to contribute immensely towards the club. Both Giggs and Scholes have always been the main strength for Sir Alex Ferguson and the experience and composure that they bring to the side is simply unbelievable. They still continue to be the soul of the club.
Iniesta stated “They’re living legends. They have played infinity of matches, they have broken all the records, titles and moreover they show what true pros they are in every game they play.” “They are veritable examples for us and all young people that want to make it one day. There is so much to be learned from them.”
However, the playmaker, Iniesta, will be United’s main problem. The Spanish was the World Cup hero, scoring the winner in extra time to give Spain their first ever World Cup Glory. However, Iniesta is not concentrating on scoring in the Finale but rather winning the Cup, although he feels this has been his best season so far. He said “I just want to win the Champions League and come back to Barcelona to celebrate it.”
Both the teams will be wary of each other and they know how dangerous their opponents are. Barcelona have been in outstanding form and so is Manchester United. With the league title sealed, both will be concentrating to clinch their 4th Champions League Cup, with the pressure is piling up. Manchester United will be up for the task and will be ready for the revenge for their loss to Barcelona two years ago.
