Roland Garros – the name which will make the headlines in the next few weeks is all in readiness to stage a high profile Grand Slam action which might end up in creating a new champion. Roland Garros retains the French Open rights after the officials were planning to shift the venue elsewhere. It is the only court to have staged the epic tennis action for 80 years now and the authorities feel the prestigious venue will embellish the occasion once again this year.
William Sisters are out of action this year. Venus is suffering from the hip injury and has not played since withdrawing from Australian Open. Serena is suffering from the foot injury even after two operations and is battling for fitness. She also has a blood clot in her lung which keeps her out of the grand slam. It is not great news for a tennis follower as they have been the best in the business right through the last 8 years and have never missed any grand slam together from 2003.
Djokovic, the new star and the latest sensation is all set to begin as favorite in the French Open after his breathtaking wins over Nadal, the King of Clay! He is all in praise for Nadal and believes Nadal is the hot favorite in his den as he has won it 5 times now. Djokovic has not won the French title yet (as his best has been reaching semis 2 times) has the pedigree and confidence now to get pass any player. He has remained unbeaten since the year beginning and has won 7 out of the 11 tournaments as on today. His form and confidence has grown with every win and has imbibed the belief in all that he can be the match winner!
The Fedex – the name which is now almost forgotten will again be chasing history to become the most coveted player in the history of the game has almost shun off from headlines due to his “not so good form”. But as the saying goes, “form is temporary but class is permanent!” and he has got all the credentials and aura in him to win the grand slam which by the way is not his forte!
So many things to look forward to in this year’s super Grand Slam and let’s hope we see a new champion at the end of it!
