IPL 2011: The Delhi Daredevils are down and out of the tournament, failing to showcase their class for which they are known for. On the other hand, the newly added team to this year’s IPL, Pune Warriors, too failed to make an impression. Since, both the teams are out of the tournament, all they can do is to fight for some pride when the two meet each other on Saturday at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi.
Talking about the Daredevils, they always had a very formidable side and were dominant in the previous editions of IPL. However, this year seems the opposite. They struggled throughout the tournament which led to their downfall this season. They did win some matches, but it was never ever a team effort. Only when Sehwag stood up or when Warner played his usual innings, only then they sensed victory. Otherwise, they never looked like a team who can win matches and always lacked confidence. They failed to perform as a unit and were unable in getting the right combination. The problem with Delhi was that they relied on only 2-3 players which resulted in their downfall. It has to be a team effort and everyone needs to contribute and this is what Delhi failed to realize.
The last match they played against the Kings XI Punjab resulted in another disgrace, suffering a 29 runs defeat. Now with Sehwag out due to injury, it seems even more difficult for them to perform. Sehwag was the stand out performer against the Chargers where he scored a blistering 119 of just 56 deliveries. Since the Daredevils are out of the tournament, they should go out carefree and try to impress in their remaining matches.
On the other hand, the Pune Warriors, playing their 1st IPL season failed to impress and were disappointing throughout the tournament. They started off in an impressive fashion, winning their first couple of games in style. They looked strong, the team looked balanced and everything went according to plan. However, after that everything went against them, going on a losing spree of 7 games in a row which ended their hopes of playing the qualifying stages. The Warriors have a balanced team, but again, what is lacking is the perfect combination and composure. Again, the team is heavily relied on 2-3 players which are indeed unacceptable. You have to have players playing their part and understand their roles accordingly. Everybody has to chip in at some stage or the other and that is the main problem.
However, all is lost for the Warriors, except some pride which they can regain against the Dardevils. Their previous encounter against the Knight Riders resulted in another nightmare, where they were thrashed once again. The Warriors are lying 9th in the table, a place ahead of Delhi, courtesy to a better run rate. On the other hand, the Daredevils have nothing to lose now and will try to regain some pride and respect when they take on the struggling Pune Warriors. The Daredevils are lying at the bottom of the table and they would badly want to improve that.
Although, it is a mere like consolation match, but it will surely be a exciting match up as both the teams have one thing in common i.e.; Nothing to lose. Both will go all guns blazing and will go hard at each other. The crowd will surely enjoy this encounter and it will be hard to predict the winner.
