The ICC Committee meeting for 2 days in Lords has set up a new trend for the cricket lovers all around the world. The 2 day meeting brought about some significant changes which included the usage pink balls in tests, qualifiers for minnows for 2015 world cup and excitingly day night tests could well become true as ICC asks the teams to have a trial in their respective county cricket.
ICC first clarified issues on the selection process of 2015 world cup. Ireland’s ace bowler Trent Johnson was the associate representative on the cricket committee. ICC suggested that there are chances that a world cup qualifier could well be on the cards to give some hope for the minnows than selecting on the basis of ODI rankings. Clearly ICC had to take the matter into consideration once the pressure started to mount when the whole of Ireland Cricket board boycotted the decision to reduce the number of teams. Ireland Cricket board CEO was thrilled as he was quoted saying “It’s excellent news that another group of people have put their support behind the need for a qualifying process” and that group of people was presided by none other than ICC president Sharad Pawar who requested the tournament’s composition to be reassessed in the ICC annual meeting in Hong Kong coming June.
Test match cricket has always been affected by bad lighting and now ICC has taken up the charge to include pink balls and believed that such a change won’t affect the game play. They are confident that the ball could last throughout 80 overs and color won’t tear off. The experimentation was previously examined and ICC thought to go with it. The committee also added that countries could use the pink ball at least in any one of the rounds in their first class championship. Speaking of bad lighting, ICC strictly emphasized on excellent floodlights in venues across the world to host a day night test match. Lords, Sydney, Abu Dhabi were quotes as best venues under floodlights. However, the ICC has asked the teams to start their trial outs as soon as possible as they predict a day night test in another couple of years. But ICC has posed problems such as due factor should not hamper the match and only selective grounds and certain climatic conditions could favor such a scenario. It is all packed up and this is completely new for players, umpires, curators and the spectators as cricket tends to evolve once again for the entertainment.
