Hardly had the premiership waved goodbye to its faithful fans that within hours Chelsea FC dropped a bombshell by declaring that Carlo Ancelotti has mutually parted ways with Chelsea FC, a rather sober way of saying that Carlo had been sacked. Roman Abramovich has been ruthless to say the least, especially when Ancelotti bagged the double last season at Chelsea. Previous incidents have proved that sudden managerial changes have brought instant successes to Stamford Bridge but it highly depends upon who the next successor would be. With the Chelsea management highly impatient for titles, it would not be a conductive environment for the next Chelsea manager to say the least. Here are the Top 3 potential candidates for the hot seat:
1. Guus Hiddink: The dutch wizard has been related to Chelsea and Roman Abramovich for some years and the entire world remembers the magician’s Midas touch in 2009 when he took over the reins of Chelsea amidst much chaos and led them to second place in BPL and an FA Cup triumph. Chelsea fans still vividly remembers him and the grief of losing out Carlo can only be forgotten if Hiddink returns to London. It seems a tough task as he has a contract at the Turkish National team up to 2012. But he has already confessed to have been an unofficial advisor to Chelsea and he is still the bookmaker’s favourite to land the job.
2. Jose Mourinho: Which Chelsea fan would not love to see the Special One return back to Stamford Bridge, a club where he became the best of the best. Although it seems unlikely especially with the sacking of Jorge Valdano, the sporting director at Real, it remains to be seen whether Abramovich who has kissed and made up with Jose would provide an offer to hard to resist. With Jose always declaring My Chelsea instead of Chelsea, it would be dream come true for all the Blues faithful.
3. Andre Villas Boas: Most people would be forgiven if they either fail to recognize this budding genius or have just listened to his name. A Mourinho protégé, Boas had earlier been on Mourinho’s scouting and coaching team at Chelsea and Inter Milan before striving to make an impact as a manager. And he has shown the world what he is capable of when he guided Porto to a treble this season. Already being dubbed as the next Mourinho, he knows the ins and outs of Chelsea and it remains to be seen if he is tempted by the Chelsea offer.
4. Manuel Pellegrini: Last heard he was happy saying that he is satisfied at Malaga. A horrific stint at Real Madrid might have put this gem of a coach unwilling to come to Stamford Bridge.
Whoever becomes the next coach won’t have an easy time. As for the fans, they would certainly expect one of the above 3 to join the team.
