Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, on Saturday said that the skipper M S Dhoni played the innings of his lifetime by making a flamboyant 91 not out and seeing the team through.
Yuvraj was in the form of his life in the tournament scoring 362 runs in 9 matches, averaging 90-plus and also grabbing 15 wickets.Yuvraj Singh was declared man of the tournament in the World Cup
Interestingly, the Jharkhand keeper had promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh to No 4. Eventually he slammed a terrific half century with two sixes and eight fours in a 79 ball 91 he scored. In the presentation Dhoni said that he wanted to prove a point more to himself than to others when it comes to handling pressure and scoring big and hence promoted himself ahead of the in-form Yuvraj Singh.
The innings had made India’s flamboyant all-rounder speechless. He did not know what to do, how to celebrate, he confessed. He wanted to jump and keep jumping on him having seen him play such a knock, he said
The emotional Yuvraj was in all tears as soon as the game was over. He also lauded Gambhir’s fourth wicket stand with the skipper. He explained how special it was to do it after 28 years amidst the home crowd. It is to be noted that M S Dhoni is the only captain who has won two world cups (T20 and the 50-over).
Yuvraj attributed his success to the hard work he had put in after being dropped from the test side. He also thanked his teammates and friends for offering support during difficult times.
Dhoni for his part also added that he was thoughtless and blank for sometime after he had guided the team home. It took sometime for me to realize that a 6-foot, 2-inch frame (Yuvraj) was coming towards me and I wanted to get to the stumps first to initiate the celebrations.
