Wayne Parnell said in an interview at the ICC Cricket World Radio Show that although he had started out in the South African team as a prime fast bowler, but his place has now been taken by Lonwabo Tsotsobe. He said “I obviously came into the side as part of the trio of bowlers selected and I was chosen first up but when I was injured Lonwabo took my place. He is one of my best friends so it is hard competing against him, but we made a decision together that whoever is playing the better cricket will be the man representing our country and at the moment he is the best man.”
“I’m practicing and in the wings, and I’m working on my all-round game which is what I think may offer more than he does, I am a better batman but he’s been bowling really well which I’m obviously really proud of him.”
On being asked if he has a better opportunity in the T20’s and ODI’s over Tsotsobe, he said,” You know it’s very tricky. It’s about what’s best for the team and in Test cricket Lonwabo is the best for the team and its very disappointing for me personally. Obviously I just have to wait for the opportunity and I just have to keep practicing that the next game will be my chance… to prove that I am the right man for the job.”
On being asked if the team has really been able to adapt to their new captain Johan Botha he said, “I think if it’s one of those guys who has been playing for the past couple of seasons, I really don’t see there should be any problem with it. Obviously we have had a certain core group of players for the past couple of seasons and I think that will remain the same. Obviously playing under a new captain will be different because of new ideas…but we’re all international cricketers and I think every captain is unique in his own way.”
Brett Lee who was on the same show spoke about his passion for music. When asked if playing in an arena like the MCG was more enthralling or performing in front of a jam packed crowd was Lee says, “ It’s both fun, which is the reason I do both.”
He then goes on to say that as a person music has really helped him because, “If I look back 10-15 years back, I felt there was a jig-saw puzzle that was missing . When I learnt music and what it was all about it gave me great sense of enjoyment and now I feel if ever I have a bad day of cricket which it will, because what I am doing is playing a sport, I can play the guitar and play the base or the piano and have fun .Music’s brought me a lot of great memories of mixing with lot of great musicians round the world.”
