Every one said Kings XI Punjab is one of the weakest squad in the IPL 4, with Adam Gilchrist, David Hussey and Shaun Marsh there were hardly any more talented international stars with majority of never heard Indian domestic players apart from Dinesh Karthik.
In the match against the Chennai Super Kings, we all saw a new player coming in the lime light; he was none other than a Mumbaikar, Paul Valthaty.
Getting out early against the Rajasthan Royals in his first match did not surprise anybody because no one expected him to score runs. But as it said that talent cannot be hidden if you have attitude and passion for the game. He surprised everyone by 120 runs innings against the Super Kings.
Every one said that it was his lucky day, but scoring 75 runs and getting 4 crucial wickets against the Deccan Charges was enough to make his critics think about him and his game.
In his second match against the Rajasthan Royals, everyone was keen to see Valthaty’s batting. He came and score 46 runs, in fact due to his blitzkrieg IPL witnessed fastest IPL fifty of a team in just 18 balls.
He overshadow his senior and captain Adam Gilchrist, who is known for his fast and aggressive game, he also overtook the Master Blaster not once but twice in the race of Orange Cap.
It is almost sure that he will be definitely a part of Indian tour to the West Indies. As most of the senior players seem to be rested for the ODI’s, Valthaty will surely be the hot favorite for the replacement of Virender Sehwag, in fact there is no hesitation to say that “Valthaty has better technique and footwork than Sehwag”. He can score six runs on short ball, which hardly any Indian can do apart from Sachin and Yuvraj. He also understands the game well and knows when to cut loose and when to play save.
Thus having passion, attitude and talent has brought Valthaty to this stage. It will be very interesting to see him play on the Windies tour.
