The 28 years of extensive pause climaxed into tears: The tears of joy for India and anguish for Sri Lanka. The Indian enthusiastic cricket fans were transformed into cry-babies!The emotion was something unutterable and apprizing. This was by far the best moment of life for the cricket aficionada generation of this decade – A moment to applaud, to scream, to shriek and to jump in frenzy!
The feeling of enchantment is ineffable. The Dhoni brigade has bombed the hearts of the nation and the globe with elation. Yes, we deserved it. It was written in our fate. We started as the favourite’s, a bit of slip-up happened in the middle, but, we peeked at the right time!
The commitment and passion in fielding with the discipline in bowling made it clear that this Indian team has saved the best for the last. It looked like stratagems were diagnosed for quite some time by India on how to perform in the final. Albeit, some bumps we looked together as one unit fighting hard for the venerated triumph.
Sri Lanka ousted us in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. So, for Sri Lanka it proved to be a “day of reckoning.” They lost Angelo Mathews before the match. At the start of toss Sangakkara pepped in with the toss controversy. But, they managed to do well with the bat. At the start of Indian batting they clinched two early wickets of – the inform Sehwag and Tendulkar. This was all noble for the day for Sri Lanka.
From here on the “domino effect” started for the Lankans! Fate supported India and the cup seemed to be engraved in the Indian destiny. Muralitharan looked timeworn. And, Malinga’s stiff efforts also went unanswered. The Indian batting line-up looked insurmountable. This even made Sangakkara saying, “Unless you have taken 7 wickets you cannot defend a total less than 350 against India.” This was the kind of quiver and dismay the Indian brigade had enforced in the Lankans!
Dhoni – The demigod surprised all by coming up the order. And, from here on the kind of composure, self-belief and resilience we displayed on the field was strikingly respectable. We proved that we are worthy of being the best. We displayed immaculate team work skill by reaching to the target against all the odds. Neither the statistics nor the venue or occasion was in our support. But, we did it!
What this victory has done is pumped up the nation to cheer aloud “Bleed Blue”. It has shelledthe young cricket enthusiast to the extent of re-planning their future. It has inspired and motivated them to reconsider a cricketing career. It has infused the chauvinistic feeling to uphold and gratify the nation. And, we all jingoists can call ourselves as the “World Champions” least for the next four years!
