He was named the second greatest Test Batsman of all time, behind only Donald Bradman, way back in 2002 by Wisden. They also named him the second greatest ODI batsman of all time, behind Viv Richards in the same year. He also has various other lauds to his name. These include the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan. The hunger of this great player does not die.
Now, Wisden – the Bible of Cricket has again named him as the Leading Cricketer in the World for 2010. With the previous two years honour bestowed to Sehwag, this is India’s hattrick to be named in the almanack.
Sachin Tendulkar has displayed vintage form in the past couple of years. He has outclassed every opposition with his inestimable talent. In 2010, Tendulkar made more than 1500 Test runs. These runs include an unbelievable 7 hundreds! He also surpassed unparalleled 50th century overall.
Every Indian Cricketer has appreciated the master’s extravagant proficiency and his consummate contribution to the nation for 21 years.
“Sachin in the last two years has been unbelievable. This genius is other way around, more he gets older more he plays like a champion,” said Kapil Dev recently.
“Sachin is ageless. Anything is possible with Sachin”, said Gilchrist.
Yuvraj Singh and MS demanded Bharat Ratna for the maestro. Dhoni when questioned about Sachin as a contender for the Bharat Ratna, replied, “Yes, 200 per cent, because he is an ideal candidate, he has served the country for 21 years with a few more to come. As a cricketer, you know, if he doesn’t get it, then I don’t think there’s anyone who’ll get the Bharat Ratna ever.”
“I think he’s done really great things for the country, taking cricket to the next level. He’s known even in places where they don’t know about the game, so I think it’s a very big achievement taking the country forward. He’s done remarkably”, he added.
Yuvi also demanded a Bharat Ratna for Sachin for his services to the game and also said that he deserves it the most! Yuvraj Singh even dedicated his great performance and the WC trophy to the master.
Now, the next milestone waiting for the maverick is the 100th International century. His citation in the Wisden concludes: ”Wisden acknowledges his greatness by naming him as the Leading cricketer in the world for 2010.”
