Shane Watson became the New Boom-Boom Sensation, when he scored 185 runs with the help of 15 sixes and fours. Watson almost scored 75 percent of the team’s target of 230, given to chase by the Bangladeshis.
He overcame the records of hitting the most sixes in an innings by leaving behind players like Shahid Afridi , Sanath Jayasuriya and Xavier Marshall. Earlier the record of hitting most sixes in an innings was held by West Indian player Xaveir Marshall, when he stroked 12 sixes against Canada in 2008.
Watson created a new line on a page of most sixes in an innings by hitting 15 sixes in a 185 runs innings, the special thing about the innings was that after scoring his century in 69 balls he crossed the 150 runs mark in just 15 balls. Along with that he also scored 2/3 of the target and chased it with ease with in the 26th over.
Watson had a reputation of playing fast, but the185 runs innings against Bangladeshi has uplifted that reputation on a level of Boom-Boom players like Virender Sehwag, Shahid Afridi and Kieron Pollard.
Earlier this innings Watson’s highest runs in an innings was 161* against England at Melbourne. That inning was also a well paced innings as he scored 161 runs in 150 balls with the help of 12 fours and only sixes.
In that innings too Australia was chasing a total of294 and Watson stood up to reach the target under the pressure situation. The Australian had huge pressure before the match on them as they had lost the ashes and they were playing without Ricky Ponting.
But Watson showed all to the Australians how to overcome the pressure and win matches. After the 185 runs innings Watson has shown clear signals that he can be the next greatest all rounder along with his contemporary Jacques Kallis.
If we equate Watson’s innings to Indian cricket, it won’t be wrong, as Rajasthan Royals will be really happy as their main retained player is back in form and will go great guns for them.
