In the Malaysian Grand Prix, there were more overtaking maneuvers than one can point a stick at and the amount of shredded tyres were more than what Kwik-Fit can have seen in a season!

World Champion and Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel won the Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday, making it his second consecutive win in the season. McLaren’s Jenson Button followed after 3.2 seconds for the second position with Renault’s Nick Heidfeld hanging on for third. After recovering from a poor start Mark Webber, Vettel’s Red Bull teammate finished at fourth position and Ferrari’s Felipe Massa was fifth. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton had a collision in the closing laps and ended up with sixth and seventh ranks respectively. Sauber’s driver Kamui Kobayashi finished at eighth place, while Mercedes’ and world champion Michael Schumacher made a quick passing maneuver from Force India’s Paul Di Resta, and was ranked ninth and tenth respectively.

Both the Red Bulls’ drivers seemed to have difficulties due to the malfunctioning of the KERS device on their cars. But both acknowledged that it had definitely given them a good corner lead.

Paul di Resta, Force India claimed that small pieces of charred rubber also known as ‘marbles’ had hit him on the hands and helmet mostly in the middle of a fast corner as he turned the wheels.

Vitaly Petrov ran wide over the grass and hit a drainage ditch which launched him into the air, across the track, and into a brake distance marker. This happened in 53rd lap of the race but he got classified as he had completed 90% of the Vettel’s distance.

Narain Karthikeyan and Vitantonio Liuzzi  from the Hispania were withdrawn by the team citing “safety reasons”. Karthikeyan experienced an abnormal rise in water temperature, whilst Liuzzi’s car was experienced vibrations from the rear wing. To avoid further damage, the teams withdrew the cars. After the Malaysian GP, the standings are as follows:

Drivers’ Championship standings:

1. Sebastian Vettel  with 50 points
2. Jenson Button  with 26 points
3. Lewis Hamilton with 22 points
4. Mark Webber with 22 points
5. Fernando Alonso with 20 points

Constructors’ Championship standings:

1. Red Bull-Renault with 72 points
2. McLaren-Mercedes with 48 points
3. Ferrari  with 36 points
4. Renault  with 30 points
5. Sauber-Ferrari  with 6 points
