1. Winning against Australia in Quarter Final.
Eight years ago on March 23rd, the very same day when Team India’s windows were shattered, billion hopes were shattered as India was bitterly crushed to a meager 234 from a set target of 359. By beating them comprehensively on the same date after eight years, they gave an interesting dimension to the tournament. The world was getting tired of Australia as world champions; a change had to be brought.
2. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar – Destiny’s favorite child.
Fate pays, but late. Nineteen years ago when Sachin Tendulkar started to play for the Indian team; nobody had ever dreamt that he would become a demigod in India. In the five world cups that he has already played, he was two times close to the glory. He probably might not be able to play his 7th World Cup, so fate decided to pay him wisely for all the efforts he put into his passion! It was entirely a “wow moment” to see the legend walk home with the cup in front of his home crowd with such excitement that he could not hold his tears back.
3. Next, Pakistan!
Probably the biggest morale booster for the players after defeating Australia! In a constantly oscillating match, the biggest catch of the day was Shahid Afridi’s wicket. After this, the chances for Pakistan went bleak.
4. Ganguly’s Support and a Subtle Dream.
He still drives his fans crazy when he is seen commenting from the box. Giving indirect inputs to the team he expressed his concern. For the immense respect that Team India has for him, following his directions proved really useful! He easily fit into the role of Kabir Khan for Indian cricket!
5. Greg Chappell.
For a two year term as a coach, you have done enough harm to our team on the long run. Good that we actually came out unscathed. Thanks to Kirsten.
“There is no one to coach India, better than me” – Clearly we can see that Greg!
Respected Greg Chappell,
This is how it is done! Looked daunting to you; but worked for me! Happy to teach you this!
Regards,
Gary Kirsten
6. The Calendar of 1983 is the same as that of 2011.
At this time, any comparison works fine. Anything which might help India is great. Might look very impractical, but this can add to the possibility of India winning!
Other reasons, coming up soon!
