Narain Karthikeyan has been professionally trained at the Elf Winfield Racing School in France and has achieved a lot in the field of motor racing, making him the first Indian to make it to the F1. His Formula One career started on 1 February 2005 when he announced that he had been signed by the Jordan Formula One team as their main driver for the 2005 Formula One season.
The friendly racer, when asked about the dangerous aspects of racing casually replies- “Speed thrills me. A focused mind and a strong will to win always make me passionate about motor racing. I am responsible on the city roads and rather wild on the circuits.”
He is thoroughly inspired by Schumacher and Barichello. To him they are legends. He feels that he is still young and has a lot to learn and achieve. His diet contains a good amount of carbohydrates and less of greasy food items which might make him lethargic.”
Racing being the most expensive sport, most people think that it’s only a rich man’s hobby. Narain denies it saying that the game is all about passion. Being rich or poor does not matter, but being committed and making the right moves at right time is the key to success. We all know that the Indian Government does not help young and aspiring racers financially to train with good racing schools. Most of them are pretty expensive and cannot be afforded by most people. To this Narain humbly replied that the government does not help, because they haven’t been asked for help. He was pretty sure that if the racers seek help, the government will be willing to work on it.
Depending on his mood he reads anything, listens to all sorts of music; `U2′ being his favorite and simply loves Indian and English cuisine! Having married recently, he mentions that he hardly gets to spend time with her. His follows a very busy schedule and with all the travelling that he does ,eventually ends up making her travel with him too.
Tata and Bharat Petroleum have been his main sponsors and have contributed generously to give his career a proper direction. With the endorsement area getting filled with sportspersons he feels no attraction towards it. Instead the only endorsement he believes in is for sponsoring companies, from which the funds can be generated to build team cars. He gave his due acknowledgement to these two giants and expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the supporters.
His sole advice: – “I would like to advise all aspiring racers to be dedicated and committed”.
