The demigod of India , is about to have a museum on himself. Isn’t that news?
Yes, its true. Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the best cricketer in the world is going to have a museum solely on himself, built by the Maharashtra Government.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan announced today at a function that a grand sports museum shall be made on the maestro and also spoke a few words of praise fr the master blaster. He said, “Sachin has made the state proud by his achievements in cricket. His contribution in the recent World Cup was immense.”
Mr. Chavan who was at a function to award sportsmen who have excelled intheir respctive fileds with the Shiv Chhatrapati State Sports Awards, also annomnuced that the Maharashtra government would also be developing 54 new sports complexes at the tehsil level.
The Maharashtra Govenment had announced earlier this month that it would be recommending Sachin’s name to the centre for the Bharat Ratna. However just doing so will not help because the guidlines for awarding the Bharat Ratna do not mention excellence in sports to be a sufficient condition for receiving the award.
According to the rules, the Bharat Ratna is awarded only if the person concerned has excelled in the fields of art, literature, science and social service. Thus, technically Sachin Tendulkar does not qualify for the award , unless the sports ministry does not make a proposal to the cabinet for doing so.
Once the proposal is accepted by the Cabinet , the Home Ministry can award Sachin with an accolade, which even the Master himself has accepted , he would love to receive.
Many sports-persons including Mahesh Bhupati, have supported the cause for awarding Sachin with the Bharat Ratna and a new entrant to that list is the Indian Football Captain Bhaichung Bhutia.
He said , “I definitely think he deserves it. But people should not campaign for it. Even Sachin would not like people to campaign. A campaign would not justify the award.”
Bhutia also feels that there is not a single reason why Sachin should not get the award , given the number years he has served the country.
He also goes on to compare sachin to the likes of Maradona and says that cricket not being so popular all over the world , has not made Sachin renowned as much as Becham or Ronaldo. Yet , he feels, by his individual contributon to the the game, “Sachin has contributed as much to cricket as Maradona had to football.”
