Street to street at the Coromandel City, all you can spot are the “yellow” posters, jerseys, hoardings and so on. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has indeed earned the victory. Dhoni, the cricket magician I would say has become the dream captain for all of us. The strategizing skills of MS Dhoni can never be unmatched.
After all the great show by Shah Rukh Khan, Shriya and many other stars at the Chennai stadium, the overwhelming crowd could not wait for the match to begin. The confluence of corporate world, cricket fraternity, and cinema [of course] was experienced at the stadium.
Then began the IPL 4 at 22:00, 8th April, 2011!
CSK innings was a bit of mental upheaval and suspense. The target [154] seemed possible for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), so it was very crucial for the skipper to make the bowling tight so that KKR would get into a crunch. The decisions are very clear and swiftly made. KKR had a wonderful comeback after three seasons of IPL, losing to CSK may be the moment of dismay yet the team was in an abysmal condition in the previous seasons. Bowling coach of KKR, Wasim Akram was happy with the way KKRs bowled the 1st innings, early wickets and a good run economy was given cumulatively by the bowling squad.
A two-run victory may seem very sad for the losing team, but the final over, the last six balls of the 2nd innings was given to Tim Southee as Dhoni decided. Southee proved right, pulled one wicket and aimed for giving just 5 runs in the over whereas KKRs required seven. The first victory was indeed deserved by the CSK for its fielding tactics. KKR would have tasted the first victory of the season if Gambhir had not gone for a second run, in which he lost a wicket.
Ten teams, a new random mixture of players, swapping roles, and facing friends in the opposite team- yes! This is what the IPL is all about.
