Moving from better to the best, the Sri Lanka cricket board wants the team to focus more on the England Tour ahead instead of IPL, which is a blend of world cricket players and lacks the country-team spirit. The World Cup 2011 runner team seemed to have a lost to the best team India; however there is always a scope for improvement feels the SL board. Tillekaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Lasith Malinga, Muttiah Muralitharan are the precious possessions of the SL Team, they are all playing with different mates which would provide no room for the team to practice in a holistic way, this is the fear factor for the board.
The call from the country is blatant that they would want their players to return home for the practice, suspending IPL for a while. This decision would make a lot of significant changes in the ongoing IPL. Mumbai Indians without the Slinga Boy, Kochi Tuskers and Deccan Chargers without their captains during the tournament. Kochi is led by Mahela Jayawardene, while Chargers is captained by Kumar Sangakkara.
The priority of the island seems to be very strict from the board’s point of view. It feels that the country’s victory is always of primary interest despite the contracts made beforehand at the IPL. This very decision is contrast to that which was made in 2008, where SL board decided to trade-off on the England Tour and cling to the IPL rather, which was a Cricket Fiesta then.
The change in issues may lead to erratic practice session between the IPL teams and of course cause few angry faces among other country players.
Will Sri Lanka take back its players from IPL?
