Sania Mirza and her American partner Elena Vesnina defeated the eight seed Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy. Sania and Vesnina beat eighth seeds Mattek-Sands and Shaughnessy 6-0, 7-5 in the finals of BNP Paribas Open.
Sania-Vesnina won the first set 6-0 in just 25 minutes and were proving to be too strong for the American pair. They marched into the second set without losing a game in the first set.
The second set saw a comeback from the Americans as they were up 5-1 and were looking to win the second set. But the Indo-Russian pair came back hard and won six consecutive games to win the set 7-5 and the title.
Sania-Vesnina were unseeded in the tournament and lost just 19 games in the tournament even defeating 7th seeded pair of Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova.
