Germany’s Andrea Petkovic stunned World number 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the third round of the WTA Sony Ericsson Open.
Petkovic won the match 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the quarter finals of the Miami event.
Petkovic said: “Most of the players think they can overpower Caroline. That’s the wrong approach. That’s where she’s the most comfortable, when she can run and bring balls back. And then once you lose your concentration, she goes for it.”
“If you try to hit every single shot with full power, she just gets more comfortable, and eventually you’re going to miss. She’s not going to miss. What I tried to do was mixing it up and makes her play, then when I had the short ball, go for it.”
Now Petkovic will play Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the quarter finals. The match will be a tough one as Jelena is in good form and is looking to win a title.
On the other hand, Sharapova also won her match against Samantha Stosur with the score of 6-4, 6-1.
