According to MS Dhoni, Sehwag’s inclusion in the playing XI against West Indies is doubtful after the Nawab of Najafgarh has suffered an allergic attack in his right knee. He said “Viru has got an allergic reaction in his right knee. So we will take a call either in the evening or by the morning, just before the game.” However Dhoni did not reveal any information about the replacements if the Team India opener had to sit out for the match.
Meanwhile Jade Dernbach who has been chosen as a replacement for Ajmal Shahzad in the knockout stage matches of the World Cup for England says he “can’t quite believe” his inclusion into the side .
Dernbach’s coach Chris Adams at his home county Surrey said “From what we’ve seen for the last two years with Jade, as a cricketer and a person, he’s matured in an accelerated way. As a bowler he has come on immensely, but as a person he has also really matured into an outstanding individual. He’ll run through brick walls for his team-mates and loves winning.”
James Tredwell who managed 4-48 in the match against West Indies said that he has been in good shape and that he hoped to be a part of the playing eleven for the matches in the knockout stages. His comments came before South Africa’s win over Bangladesh, which took England into the Quarter Finals and thus he added that “It’s now a genuine knock-out. If we get through and play a bit better than we have been doing then we can win the World Cup.”
Shoaib Akhtar in an interview before Pakistan’s match with Australia said that the Australians are no more the feared team that they used to be in the past. He says that there is hardly any comparison between Steve Smith and Warne or Haddin and Hayden. Having said that he even says that they are still a very competitive team but are not as competitive as they were till about four years back. He says “Those great teams were impossible to beat, but now this team is struggling, we’ve seen that with the Ashes loss and the last three or four years. They are not the same side, Ricky Ponting makes a difference, he is one of the greatest players we’ve seen, but he can’t do it all himself.”
Speaking on the Tasmanian Aussie Captains future Shoaib says “I believe Ricky has two more years, but only if he steps down as captain, I do believe he is muddling himself as a captain and his performances are being affected. It’s not working for him. He led such a great side, which made it easier for him, but now he is struggling to lead the side and concentrate on batting well. He should just play his part as a player, he would be much better off without the captaincy.”
