WC 2011 (Part 1): They Said It

Cricket World Cup 2011

Cricket World Cup 2011

Parties and meeting old-folks are always instrumental in churning up those almost-lost moments of the past. One such event was organized lately; all the cricket veterans came under one roof. Such gatherings are generally a case of rarity in cricket.

It is always a pleasure, pride, a responsibility for a captain to move the team forward, closer to the goal. At the meet-up Clive Lloyd (WI) possessed an unique identity from other champions like Kapil Dev (IND), Imran Khan (PAK), Allan Border and Steve Waugh (AUS), Arjuna Ranatunga (SL), he has won the World Cup twice, both under his captaincy. Ranatunga was one of a kind; his team was the only team in the World Cup history to win the Championship in the home-grounds.

Excluding Ricky Ponting, all the previous WC winning captains gathered for this occasion. This event was organized by Idea (telecom giant). Having light talks with regard to the WC ahead, chaffing each other about their realm of the game were the memorable moments of the occasion.

The maestros discussed about the Champion nation of this WC which is scheduled on 19 of February. Another fortnight to go for this festival of cricket, the players unanimously agreed that India is likely to win this WC closely chased by Sri Lanka.

A quote by Pat Riley “A champion needs a motivation above and beyond winning” is true, our champions have got the motivation now (more of a prediction) from the stars of yesterday, will the fire glow till the end or will it turn ambers and fade off?

Wait for another two weeks to catch up the updates on World Cup 2011.
