Mumbai, Jan 04: Though Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) may have postponed the practice matches at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday but that doesn’t mean that there are some errors in the preparation of the stadium. The Mumbai’s old ground will host three WC games including the big finals on April 2. The MCA officials are stressing themselves to complete the work before three days of deadline given by International Cricket Council (ICC) of February 13, one month before the first match to be hosted at the stadium.
“The stadium will get ready within a week from now on. Only the finishing touches are remaining to be given to the stadium,” said MCA joint secretary Lalchand Rajput on Thursday. Though Rajput didn’t give any details about the progress of the stadium but it is learnt that the practice matches were postponed because the floodlights were not tested properly. “But the junior players had the practice session with length shadows in the presence of ICC pitch consultant Andy Atkinson the day before,” said MCA insider who didn’t revealed his name. “Adjusting to shadows of players under lights started on Wednesday and should be over in three to four days,” he added.
The work that is being going on is fitting paver blocks outside the ground where half the stadium is complete. Cleaning of the stadium and fitting the screws below bucket seats. Fitting electronic scoreboard and manual scoreboard. Fitting a special screen behind the sight screen, where the ICC is going to send the material, it’s just a day’s job. Getting the power supply regulated to both the lifts which is not in ICC norms. And atlast aiming the testing of floodlights.
