The Rajasthan Royals had a very difficult time last year along with Lalit Modi. Their affiliation with the IPL was terminated by the BCCI in October of last year, the reason being they were charged with the violation of shareholding and ownership norms.
The dispute had to ultimately be solved by a third unbiased party in November 2010 as neither side could settle the matter as the Rajasthan Royals had filed a case in the High Court saying that the decisions taken by the board were biased and unilateral in nature.
The Royals are now behaving like anything but Royalty, they are asking for a compensation of 120 Crore from the BCCI due to damages to their team reputation and ultimate loss of revenue.
It doesn’t seem right however, what loss of reputation? If a person is watching a match they are watching it for the team not because of the fact that the owners are involved in a tussle with the BCCI.
A fitting example would be KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders), they performed comparatively horribly in all the seasons till now, but SRK was the one who ended up making the maximum money. The losing streak they were on didn’t seem to affect their revenue in terms of fans as well as sponsors so why violation of laws would be affecting the Rajasthan Royals?
Yes, it is unlikely that a RR supporter would refuse to buy their jersey but there is a large possibility that many of their sponsors have pulled out which would be the reason for them blaming the BCCI, in which case they would be completely justified.
Rajasthan Royals would also be sulking is because they didn’t get as much money as the rest of the teams to buy their list of players and that obviously has irked them. Also the fact that they couldn’t afford Yusuf Pathan also must have affected them immensely.
They managed to get quite a few good players for their team this season, such as retaining Shane Warne and Shane Watson for starters, then purchasing Paul Collingwood, Ross Taylor, Rahul Dravid and Shaun Tait which is more than what the Kochi team got even though they had enough funds, so Shilpa Shetty just needs to relax and be as happy as she was after her first nose job.
They may not have the same glory as the underdogs who won the first IPL season but its nothing that a little time can’t change, that’s why the T20 format is both ugly and pretty because it can change the game in your favour or against at the blink of an eye.
The Rajasthan Royals with the new team will have as good a chance as any other team to win the hideous IPL Trophy, which hopefully with Lalit Modi’s removal they changed the trophy as well.
