All those who are die hard fans of the Mumbai Indians, good for you, they are a brilliant team, they were before and they are now even after the new auction.
Personally, the only reason why many (including myself) would love the Mumbai Indians is because of the love for Sachin Tendulkar. No matter how much we may want to support our own city team, a team without Tendulkar doesn’t feel right.
I once found myself in a match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians, torn. Sitting (standing mostly) in Feroz Shah Kotla wearing the Delhi team Jersey but internally thinking, I hope Delhi wins but I get to see Sachin play brilliantly, who would be stupid enough to see a match with Sachin and not want to see him play his best? This is something many must have gone through.
Having retained so many players the Ambani team had less to splurge on during the auction; however you’ll still see big names involved. They paid a hefty some of $ 2 million on Rohit Sharma on the first day itself and Munaf Patel for $700,000 along with taking 11 uncapped players.
The most interesting part of the auction for their side was purchasing Andrew Symonds. Everyone remembers the monkey business (no racism involved) between Harbhajan Singh and him from a few years ago.
Sachin Tendulkar always does something for a reason, but isn’t this pushing it a little far? But if there’s anybody who can control those two together, it’s Sachin Tendulkar.
Meaning we have all admired and laughed at Bhajji calming Sreesanth down, that was understandable but Bhajji with Symonds? It feels scary for some reason, like a volcano waiting to erupt. Things probably changed after that but animosities are sometimes not easily forgotten, especially when an Aussie is involved. Symonds will of course not be stupid enough to pick a fight with Bhajji on his turf and with a team who’s giving him money and most of all Sachin Tendulkar whose mere presence should be enough to control his temper and shut him up.
Irrespective, everyone will be looking wide eyed to see what those two do in each others presence on the field, every move every handshake will be talked about and analysed.
The Mumbai Indians will be fun to watch with or without the Bhajji-Symonds antics, and rest assured they will be gunning for the gold gaudy and highly ugly IPL trophy this season.
