Sourav Ganguly’s year hasn’t started well at all. No IPL team seems to want him and everyone is poking and prodding him because of that fact.
When there is enough excitement generated with only 11 days to go and Eden Gardens being cleared for the remaining 3 matches that are to be held there, why is the attention still on Ganguly? Give the guy a break.
Initially he had stated that neither side had approached him, therefore there is a possibility that his future involvement might have been in some team but he didn’t want to make it public.
However it is now obvious that many of those teams rejected him from being involved in the IPL Season 4 in any way possible.
Many channels reported saying Sourav Ganguly has decided to retire from all formats of cricket after all the teams (owners) shunned him.
Everyone wanted to hear it finally from the horses mouth itself but Ganguly has remained as evasive as ever, thereby making all his fans and everybody else want to know what is actually going on even more.
It is unclear whether Ganguly is in the news recently because of his own tricks or because many want to demean him further. The fact that no body bought him is still shocking to many that even while watching the slightly annoying Film fare awards they couldn’t stop poking at the act of SRK not selecting him. It is fairly obvious now, Bollywood and Cricket have merged somewhat. If this continues cricket will cease to be a sport in the near future, it will be the play ground of the rich. The IPL will not only suck the fun out of cricket but will also end up making future Indian players more greedy than passionate.
It is simple, a cricketer who has played all formats such as Test and ODI will take little or no time to adjust to the T20 format but a youngster starting cricket afresh with the sole purpose of being in T20 to make money will not be able to play test or ODI which as we all know are the backbones of international cricket. There will be a time when the greats will leave cricket, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar, what will the Indian test team be then? There is nobody even close to replacing or being a worthy substitute for them, England will then be the No. 1 Test team.
Going back to the Ganguly controversy, his reply to the hundred questions being thrown at him was “I have already retired from international cricket in 2008. If I don’t get to play IPL 1 will not be participating in any forms of domestic cricket. But if I do get an opportunity to play IPL, I will play domestic cricket to stay fit,” Ganguly said.
It is shocking to hear that even after being insulted so blatantly from the team owners Ganguly is still harbouring ideas to return to IPL in the future.
So who is the culprit? Is it the team owners who have insulted one of Indian crickets best captain and player or does the fault lie with Ganguly itself, is he trying to make a quick buck even though he isn’t in his best form since retirement , why doesn’t he chose to walk out with whatever dignity has left for him?
